Edward Gwyn Johns
December 22 1945 to April 29 2021
Loved Son to Royal Edward Johns and Vera Evelyn Johns
Beloved and adored Dad to Carly and Michelle
Forever grateful recovering alcoholic
Yesterday we lost our Dad, a man, who for both Carly and I, literally defined our worlds. He was our
person. The phone call always made and taken just to hear how the day had gone, always providing
honest and frank feedback and advice, even if that involved a swift kick up the ass. He was our guiding
light of what is right in the world and our place in it and we feel immensely lost without him.
As Carly and I sit here in his home, looking through old photos together, listening to his music, we just
cannot believe the man we call E-Diddy and Dad is no longer with us – his presence in our lives was so
fierce – always there, always supportive, always full of love. The chasm of space and time between now
and then and forever ahead is unfathomable to us, and yet we find strength to carry on because of who
Ed Johns was not only to us, but to the so many lives he touched over the years through his work with
Terminix and his beloved recovery from alcoholism at The How Place.
Ed’s recovery and work on his program with the HOW Place helped him to find a peace and
contentment with life that he felt he was doomed to never experience, and he gained so much joy,
gratitude and humbleness from helping others to find the same.
We hope you too can think of Ed, and think of all that is good and right in the world – as we will always
do when we think of him.
Ed was not a fru-fru flowers kind of guy, so we ask that you please send donations to his beloved HOW
Place, in lieu of flowers, so the amazing work of The Program and The HOW Place may continue on way
beyond his life.
And if you can’t send donations, we ask you to please do something kind and generous for someone
today, tomorrow, or whenever you can – for anyone or everyone you can. We hope that by continuing
to help and support those around us as generously as Ed did, his life will continue forever through each
one of us.
Ed was adamant that there be no public service to mourn his leaving us. So instead Carly and I are going
to bend his rules just one more time, thanks to our HOW Place Family, and hold the Saturday Sunshine
meeting in loving memory of Ed this coming Saturday, May 8th at 10:30AM.
